I didn’t know that was on my Facebook wall, Thanks SimpleWash

June 26, 2013February 8, 2013 by Nik Kingsman
SimpleWash - Formally known as FaceWash

SimpleWash - Formally known as FaceWashHave you ever taken your mobile phone to a party, had a few drinks and then scrolled through your Facebook wall the next day? Been irate and posted something which you shouldn’t have? Or just plain old swearing a lot in your status updates? Im sure we have all been there!

SimpleWash (formally known as FaceWash) is a great service to scan through your Facebook wall looking for all that dirty talk and highlights what could be considered offensive to others, as you know, Facebook is the first place people look to find out more about you.

To use SimpleWash head over to http://simplewa.sh/ and log in with your Facebook account, accept and install the Facebook app. Once installed, click the “Start” button (top left) It will then start scanning and within a minute it will highlight what needs attention. Once it has found the offending content, you can simply click on the page link, go straight to the offending content and either Delete the post/photo or change the “share with” drop-down to either Public, Friends or Hide it from everyone and use Only Me. It will highlight posts which contain offensive words, also the words like BEER and even XX if you have signed off with a kiss.

I hear a whisper though, SimpleWash is also coming to Twitter, so stay tuned for that.

Give it a try, it certainly does come in handy….and keep up to date with their announcements by following them on Facebook and Twitter.

That unwanted Instagram mention

June 26, 2013February 8, 2013 by Nik Kingsman
Unwanted Instagram Mention

Unwanted Instagram MentionAre you getting bombarded with accidental Instagram mentions?

As an early adopter of Instagram, I am finding one thing very annoying these days – being mentioned by mistake, that is, someone uses @your-username in their post/reply. As I have a short username, I find that a 13 year kid who is just to excited to mention something trivial on a post or someone who just has fat thumbs and doesn’t take the time look at what they are typing before hitting that big send button accidentally mentions me. Annoying much? Yes sir!

With over 100 million registered users and 90 million active logins on Instagram per month, you can see how easily this can now happen.

I don’t mind if I am accidentally mentioned but please have the courtesy to apologise for the mistake… you never know, you might find that we both have something in common and a new friendship is made!

Here are some links to Instagram Etiquette:

ITProPortal
Slideshare
Huffington Post

I find on a daily basis that I could block and spam up to 20 accounts… so you can imagine my frustration.

Have you come across the same thing? What tactics do you have to combat the annoying mention tag? Let us know!

LinkedIn Company Banners // WhichSocialMedia

LinkedIn Company Banners // WhichSocialMedia

Two things announced today, LinkedIn now has the ability to add a header image to your Company’s page and Tumblr gets access to add your About.me link to your account.

LinkedIn Company Pages get Header Image

If your company has a LinkedIn Page then you will now have the ability to add a customised header banner image to your page. If you are going to create a custom banner image, then the dimensions you will need are 646 x 220 pixels, make sure you use these dimensions otherwise your banner will look, well, just a bit awkward!

But wait, that’s not all…

As well as the custom header image, pages now have:

  • a streamlined layout,
  • improvements made to your status updates
  • and featured status updates!

oh wait, they have announced even more goodies….

Company pages now appear on mobile and iPad apps!

For more information on the updates, please visit LinkedIn.

Tumblr gets About.me addon

about.me addon // WhichSocialMediaSo now you have the ability to embed your About.me profile into your Tumblr blog and this is how you do it!

Simply log into your about.me account

click on DASHBOARD (if it doesn’t take you there when you log in)

Click the EMBED button

COPY the embed code

Go to Tumblr.com and log into your account

Click on your AVATAR in the top left hand corner

Click the CUSTOMISE button (top right corner)

Remove the text in your Description (if you have any)

Paste the Embed code there

SAVE

Now when you update the About.me account, this will update automatically on your Tumblr account – way too cool for school!

New Twitter app in the iTunes store

Twitter ProfileTwitter has just announce that they have updated their iPad app. WOOHOO I hear you say…

So far there hasn’t been many favourable comments about it.

Customer Reviews on iTunes

A complete downgrade
by FU EA

The inability to directly open links from the timeline, plus the inability to browse the timeline while links load make this a huge step backward from the previous versions. What is twitter thinking lately? I gave it two stars because it is at least stable and things do seem to load a bit faster, but what was once a very useful client is now basically broken. And I’m reluctant to spend money on a third-party client, as twitter seems intent on eventually locking them all out. Again, what are they thinking?

Not impressed…
by Mpdrew

I was pleased with the previous version. This update took a step back in my opinion.

i dont like it, v5
by aruffr13

with the old version i was be able to watch a webpage and see all tweets on the left.. but now when i open a link just open a full view of the web page. I don’t like.

Some of the things which Twitter say are new in version 5 are:

  • You can expand tweets with a single touch to see photo’s and media,
  • See who has followed, mentioned, retweeted or favourited your tweets,
  • See which accounts or tweets are favourited by your friends,
  • See what topics are trending,
  • Easily find accounts to follow,
  • Add a new header photo,
  • and other improvements, fixes and polishes.

Why not make up your mind and Download the new Twitter app for iPad now from iTunes, let us know what you think!
